BEFORE: 

A good friend is someone who cares for you, someone you feel like you can talk to whenever you need. Generally, someone who you share connections with, and with whom you genuinely enjoy talking and being around this individual. It seems like the author has many perceptions of what friendship looks like, and explains how there are many different types of friends. He tells us that the face to face interaction is ultimately so important for a good friendship, and we may see those interactions begin to decrease as social media becomes more popular among the upcoming and current generations. 

AFTER:

A good friend is someone who cares for you, someone you feel like you can talk to whenever you need. Generally, someone who you share connections with, and with whom you genuinely enjoy talking and being around this individual. You can trust them, they’re dependable, and they accept you as to who you are. It seems like the author has many perceptions of what friendship looks like, you have a group of 150, which are considered casual friends, the next step down is 50 who are considered to be your close friends, all the way down to 5, your best friends. Those 5 may change every week, “your five today may not be your five tomorrow.” He tells us that the face to face interaction is ultimately so important for a good friendship, and we may see those interactions begin to decrease as social media becomes more popular among the upcoming and current generations. I for one, see the worry and agree that genuine interactions will be lost as social media continues to grow. 

I got into more specifics with my new paragraph. I gave the reader more characteristics of what a good friendship looks like. I went in-depth on the number 150, and the different levels of friendship according to Konnikova. I tried to help the reader understand exactly what the text was saying as if they’ve never read this piece before. I included a direct quote to help with that as well. Lastly, I added my own personal opinion. I agreed with this specific point from the writing, which helps my reader see where I stand. Overall, allowing for less confusion, and more clear, deliberate writing.
